Even though at first glance this box mod has the typical box look to it that’s where the comparisons pretty much stop. Starting at the top you will notice there is a toggle switch – this is used instead of buttons to switch settings and adjust the power. Love it, it’s easy to use and the response is just as fast as the standard button system you see on most mods. A big plus with the toggle being up top, you simply don’t bump it accidently as its completely out of the way.
The vapor output is solid on the basic wattage mode and vaping with the temp control, even at 600 degrees the temperature protection kicked in immediately and was very impressive. We definitely got a feel of a very well crafted device and it does what its supposed to consistently, thus practically making a dry-hit impossible.
As far the aesthetics go, the black and red color scheme looked very sharp and the lacquer paint job really helps it pop. This kit comes with a white rubber cover, which is very helpful in getting a better grip on the device for those with butterfingers. Solid feel in your hand, not too big even with a tank, and the weight of the device is appropriate with a mod of this size.
The 5000mAh battery carried my through the day and deep into the night in temperature mode. Recharging was a little bit of a let down as this box took almost 4 hours to fully charge.
For review purposes, we use the tank that comes with the kit. The eGo One Mega tank really surprised me with flavor output but the reservoir claims its 4ml but it felt like it was slightly less than that. Nevertheless, the eGo One is a great setup with this kit and Joyetech gets an “A” for using this tank.

Axis Vapes M17 (DNA200) Mod

We were stoked to announce the buzz around Axis Vapes and their mission to create a more obtainable high-end DNA200 Mod. Well have they done it? Is it all it’s cracked up to be? Are they easy to get? Yes, Yes, and Yes! Lets talk the details, shall we?
First and foremost Axis Vapes has killer service. This is an important ingredient in being successful in any business, let alone the Vape industry. We scored a mod on their first release and there was a mix up, two of us ordered the same mod. So what did they do? They got in touch immediately and offered us a couple new finish choices, we were set on blue and they didn’t have one ready yet but they let us pick a block and then did a great job getting it ready a couple days later. Keep in mind they had no idea we were going to review it or who we were, this is the level of service you can expect for everyone. Just stellar!
Since our order we have kept a close eye on their releases to see if they could keep their promise of making it easy (or at least easier than most other high-end mods) to get, and we are happy to report they have done a great job. And as of Feb 19th they have stepped up to full production and are adding mods for sale on a somewhat daily basis. It’s a good idea to follow the company on Instagram, they announce releases on their feed.
The Axis Vapes site is well thought out and gives a personalized feel to the order process. Each new Mod is showcased with several pics and its serial number, making it easy to get a great sense of what you will receive on delivery. The packaging and detail around shipping is stellar, they ship quick and you can rest assured your Mod will arrive in perfect condition.
Okay so what about the Mod? How is it? Is it worth the $350-425 price tag? Well yes it is. The High-end market is weird, the mods function really no differently than one you can purchase in your local vape shop with the same chipset and battery specs. It’s about the materials, case design, and hand feel. So if you think about it, they are never going to be good value, but the emotional connection you have with them may make up for it.
The M17 is beautiful crafted and finished, the wood is perfect, there are no surprises (you get the one you ordered), and thanks to the Evolve DNA 200 chipset it functions beautifully. The hand feel is quite good, smooth, curved perfectly, a little tall but the proportions are spot on for an average sized hand. The Wood is thick, there is no flex, it’s going to stand up very well. The sanding and polishing are again spotless. Axis has done a great job curating their wood block selection, there isn’t really an ugly M17 out there. They come in 3 finishes, 1 colour dyed stabilized wood($350), 2 colour dyed stabilized($375), and soon an acrylic stabilized hybrid they are calling “Shokwood”($425). We aren’t positive but we think we scored a two colour, it’s blue with slight purple accents, but not sure how it qualifies.
The fit and finish is pretty spotless, the tolerances around the aluminium faceplate are pretty much perfect.The Mitech fire button has the trademark clickiness with a short throw. The control buttons are stainless and match the fire button perfectly. Again everything looks to be very durable (we have only had it a couple weeks) with no signs of wear so far. The little details in the quality and positioning of the logo, serial number, and vent holes are flawless. You will find yourself staring at it frequently.
A couple small gripes, one is the allen screw heads that secure the faceplate simply look cheap (their faces are rough and the colour of the material doesn’t really match with anything, making them stick out visually), and our unit has a bit of an issue with the level of protrusion on the up/down control buttons (they aren’t sticking out equally, the right button is about 1-2mm further into the faceplate, works perfectly, you just feel it). These are minor issues, but when you spend $350+ USD on a mod, you find yourself getting picky, for us it’s because we want to live with it a long time and so we want it perfect. All this said it’s still an awesome, awesome mod!
Battery life is decent, it’s not really Axis Vapes problem, they have put in a more than average capacity LiPo battery. Most moders and manufacturers use 900 mAh, so the 1100 mAh is nice, it still won’t make the mod last all day. We find with all DNA200 LiPo setups that vaping anything over 25W at a chain vape level only last a max of 8hrs or so, you get a little more life jumping to 1100 or 1300 mAh, but not a ton more (maybe an real world hour per capacity). The good news is it charges pretty quick and if you are buying this mod you more than likely have another mod you can use while it juices up.
The M17 feels great in the hand, it’s light, about the same weight at a Hobo X which is much smaller. The weight will surprise you, much lighter than you think. Everything about this mod feels high-end, Axis has delivered on their promise. It’s not affordable- but much better priced than many, many other mods of this level on the market. And you have a great chance of scoring one, unlike a lot of those other crazily priced mods. This whole side of the market is about preference and style, you need to love the aesthetic and design for it to be worth it for you.
If you are in the market for a high-end mod you need to at the very least check out the M17. We love what Axis is trying to do and think they are doing an awesome job at making the high-end market more accessible. Hopefully more moders/manufacturers will follow suit.

Maraxus Mod

The Maraxus Mechanical Mod is one of the few truly telescopic mech mods on the market. Unlike mods with removable rings, the Maraxus has a threaded telescoping centerpiece, giving it the flexibility to use any battery with an 18mm diameter! Made of stainless steel and brass, with gold-plated contacts, the Maraxus Mechanical Mod is gorgeous, high-quality, and flexible. Eight vent holes ensure safety in the case of a battery failure, and the brass components minimize the resistance in the mod body.
Like all mechanical mods, the Maraxus is completely devoid of circuitry or wiring. The lack of regulatory features is complemented by direct access to the circuit, and grants the ability to maximize the power delivered to your atomizer! Be careful when using any mech mod, however, as the lack of safety features makes it easier to misuse your device. The vent holes on the Maraxus are wonderful, however, and make this mod much safer than many.
Scoring the Maraxus Mechanical Mod
Design: 9.5/10
The design of the Maraxus really lets the stainless steel and brass shine through. Bright and beautiful, with a near-symmetrical design reminiscent of a lightsaber handle, this mod is one of the best looking out there.
Functionality: 8/10
With mechanical mods, the majority of the difference in functionality between different devices is in the button and the resistance. The button of the Maraxus actuates smoothly and with no play. The brass body of this piece has an extremely low resistance, letting the current flow straight into the coil.
Customization: 9/10
The smooth movement of the Maraxus’s telescopic center ring is a significant improvement on the discrete adjustments allowed on other mods. The ability to both adjust to any size and lock down the battery with the same ring is incredibly efficient. The floating center pin also can be adjusted, improving the flexibility with different atomizers!
Build Quality: 9/10
Stainless steel, brass, and gold make up all of this mod. It’s the highest quality imaginable, and is ruggedly-built to boot!
Overall Score: 9/10
The Maraxus Mechanical Mod is a beautiful mech mod with a telescopic center ring. It’s highly functional and flexible, is made of gorgeous metals, and has eight vent holes for safety. This is a hard mod to beat, especially in looks!

Smoktech Magneto V3

I have always had a soft spot for completely mechanical mods. Their simplicity, their toughness, and their simplicity (wait, I said that already) are an alluring factor for many Vapers, myself included. When MyVaporStore sent us the new Magneto from SMOKTech I had to be the one to write the review. In the words of Mordin the Salarian in the magnificent “Mass Effect Trilogy” would say, “Someone else might have gotten it wrong”. There is much to like about the Magneto, and one or two annoyances as well.
The Mech-Mod Goes Upscale
Okay, so first of all, the Magneto is a good-looking mod. Far better looking than just about any other mechanical mod I’ve used in the past year and a half. Is it as good looking as something coming from Vape Rev, like an Atmomixani “Nemesis”? Well, no, then again, the glorious Nemesis is a $175 mod and the Magneto is just $49.95 (at MyVaporStore), so there’s that. It’s also not an Otto Carter $3000 hand-engraved piece of art, but no matter, it is still a good-looking mod that has taken the mech-mod to a higher scale than we’ve seen in some time (the above-mentioned mods excluded of cou
rse). But there is more to the Magneto than just good looks, a lot more.
Magneto Means Magnets
Inside the magnetic switch lie two magnets, with the poles facing each other. If you The Magneto mech-mod is the first I’ve used that uses a magnetic switch. The inclusion of a magnetic switch instead of the usual spring means the action is smoother, cleaner, without the worry of wearing out the spring action or breaking it completely. Some call it revolutionary, I call it smart engineering. The Magneto is going to outlive every other mod you have. And the “throw” of the switch is damn near perfect.
Telescopic in Nature
This cool little mech-mod also handles just about every kind of battery you might want to use. It’s telescopic feature will allow you to slip in a small 18350 battery, an 18500, or even a 18650 flat-top battery, so you have the ability to adjust the overall length, or charge times, by choosing the right battery for the occasion. It does this ‘accommodating’ without extension tubes, which is really nice. All you do is lengthen the device by unscrewing the tube to fit the battery you want to use.
You can even use a Kick with a flattop battery to increase the power, but more on that later. In just a few short days I’m learning that certain kicks work better than others and the consensus, so far, is leaning toward a Sigelia Kick, not the Evolv. I haven’t used a Kick in this yet, so if you have used one your comments are welcome. The point is, with the Magneto you have options galore.
Before I dive into my real world experience with the Magneto, here are the actual specs on the device, straight from MyVaporStore:

My Real World Impressions
The first thing you need to get used to is not the size, although there’s that too, it’s the fact that this is another mod with the firing button on the bottom. You can get used to it in a matter of a couple of hours, but if you’re like me and you switch your hardware around you might spend some time getting used to it over and over as you move from a side activator to the bottom activator. What I do like about the bottom activator is that it’s the entire bottom of the mod that’s the firing button, no searching for it blindly. (The engraved spider is also a nice thing about the firing button) And of course, since it’s a magnetic switch there is no spring to worry about.
I’ve used an 18350, an 18500 and the 18650 batteries in the Magneto. The difference in size isn’t that great, but the length of time you can use it before recharging or switching out the battery for a fresh one does make a big difference. Clearly the 18650 will last the longest, but it also increases the length to the point where you begin to think it’s too thin to be this long, if that makes any sense. (It does to me anyway)
When you get the Magneto it is set up to accept the 18350 battery, it’s smallest size, and you’ll marvel at the high-quality concept of the mod. It looks expensive, it feels expensive, and with the ‘350 battery inside the entire mod fits in the palm of your hand. If you are currently using something like the eVic, ProVari, or the SID you’ll notice it instantly. It will seem tiny in comparison. And it is…tiny, I mean.
Usage
I was really impressed with the heft of the mod and the looks. It screams quality. Well, okay, it doesn’t “scream” quality, but it talks loudly. Like I said, there are some very expensive mods out there, and if you have the money then by all means dive in (I plan to one day), but if you want to spend as little money as possible the Magnetoshould fit your budget nicely.
I was given the Magneto for review purposes on a Monday and it wasn’t until Wednesday of that week that I dove in and started using it. The reason had everything to do with the bottom activator button. It just didn’t appeal to me at the time. After watching SmokenJoey’s video and seeing how he placed his hand while using it I thought it would be a pain in the butt. So I waited until someone asked me “How’s the review going?” before I started using it. Surprisingly, when you do get used to the bottom button it begins to feel natural… in a way. I mean, after a couple of years of side-activators a bottom button is never going to feel “as” natural, but it was okay. More than okay, really, it felt decent enough to use on a consistent basis.
So, for about 10 days I put away my VAMO 3and used the Magneto and all was well. It outputs a nice 3.7v to 4.2v, takes most if not all 510-threaded devices, and even worked really well with several of my RBA’s, including my RSST(though it made it look a little out of proportion). Strangely enough, my AGA’s wouldn’t fire and I have since learned that in order to get it to work I would need to tweak the AGA’s, something I’m not willing to do. Besides, as a mech-mod why would I want to use an RBA a lot anyway? I’d rather have the electronics of a true APV to tweak my sweet spots with sophisticated RBA’s. I’m not a gearhead Vaper, I don’t really want to get into every bit of the minutia of a mech-mod or even RBA’s, and I’d rather just enjoy the vapor anyway. It would be nice if SMOKTech had included an adjustable center pin though. (UPDATE: I’m being told that an updated Magneto with an adjustable pin is on the way. We’ll see.)
The Magneto is brushed stainless steel except for the bottom ring at the base, which is a nice shiny brass. Very smart looking.
Should you buy it and why…
Are you in the market for fully mechanical mod? If you are this is one of the nicest going, especially for the price. A mech-mod like this will last a lifetime and you won’t have to worry about the electronics, though you don’t have a lot of room for tweaking your voltage or wattage without using a Kick. It is what it is.
What I really like about mech-mods is the ease of operation. The fact that I can change out cartomizers, tanks, and whatever quickly, without having to adjust anything with the mech-mod, it’s pretty great. It is a good device for me because I like to fill up 510 cartomizers (Kanger horizontal coil) to not only test out different flavors for review purposes but to find the right “vape” on any given day when I have no idea what I feel like vaping. All I want to do it grab a cartomizer; fill it with juice and vape. If I like it enough I’ll finish off the cartomizer and then fill a tank. Otherwise I keep going until I find something I want to vape. It’s really that simple and a mech-mod is the perfect device for that.
New Vapers and Veteran Vapers use mech-mods for various reasons, so the market is wide open for these inexpensive, but high quality devices. For new Vapers looking to leave the cig-a-like batteries behind this is a great way to do it. They can stay with their cartomizers until they are ready to move on.
Veteran Vapers like mech-mods pretty much for the same reason, except that a pure mechanical mod will fire any at “ohm”, meaning that if you wanted to build a 1-ohm coil and use it you can. Electronic mods restrict such things. (With good reason). There is no circuit board to worry about, and, with the Magneto, no switch problems (magnets!), and they just never quit. Lastly, Veteran Vapers like them because the Magneto can handle a Kick. I don’t want to get too technical here (perhaps a piece on Kicks is warranted down the road), but a kick is a module that can be used in a mod that can handle an 18650 battery. You replace the 18650 with an 18500 or an 18490, put in the Kick and you now have a variable “power” mod. By adjusting the dial on the Kick you can set the power/voltage in a variety of ways. But remember, because it is a mechanical mode it’s not a good idea to use to test newly built coils. (No circuit protection)
So, again, should you buy one? For $50, the SMOKTech Magneto is one helluva buy. I’m not dumping my VAMO 3 full time, I like the VV/VW features of APV’s too much, but every serious Vaper should have a couple of mech-mods on hand. And worst case scenario, if for some strange reason e-cigarettes are banned they can’t ban batteries so a fully mechanical mod is a great standby mod.
The SMOKTech Magneto is a great little mech-mod that will last years and costs under $50. It is way better looking than it needs to be at that price, and built extremely well. Should you buy one? Yes.

The edge is quite edgy indeed. Experiencing this hybrid sub ohm device was quite the treat. It combines the sensibilities of a sub ohm mod setup inserted into a vape pen; it’s as good as it sounds!
The VaporFi Edge promises a sub-ohm capable device that still maintains the simplicity of entry-level setups, boasting an in-built 1800 mAh capacity battery and offering up to 100 W of power for some serious clouds. The Edge starter kit also comes with a 7 ml capacity sub-ohm tank, a couple of coils and a charger, but at $129.99, is it worth the investment? Our VaporFi Edge review puts the device to the test to find out.
What You Get
The VaporFi Edge Starter Kit includes the Edge sub ohm 1800 mAh device, the Edge sub ohm tank with 0.5 ohm atomizer, drip tip adapter, replacement tank glass, extra 0.2 ohm atomizer, USB charger, and wall charger. While the price tag of $129.99 seems a bit steep for a simple sub ohm setup, this includes the tank, 2 different coils, etc, making it a really nice, fully-equipped package.
I can’t say enough positive things about this device because it really is superior to so many other items out there. Getting a ready-to-use sub ohm device, that requires no building, electrical knowledge or configuring is a major steal when it performs this well. Firing up to 100 W, which is a hefty amount of power capability, the clouds are even better than I’ve seen with a lot of dripping setups. For the real hardcore builders/ DIY-ers, this probably won’t be the most satisfying device, otherwise, for the less hardcore among us, it rocks.
Design and Compatibility
Design-wise, this is a no-holds-barred kind of machine. It is sleek yet still rather sizable. Available in black or stainless steel, it looks rather sharp indeed. The giant 7 ml tank is perfect for those who go heavy on usage and are after big, big clouds. When designing this innovative mod, VaporFi really went all out and put a lot of thought into just about everything.
Simplicity was seriously accounted for; many people want a high level of performance without having to take up a hobby to get it. They executed a device that delivers on a lot of power, up to 100 W with a 1800 mAh battery, and design features such as the wide bore drip tip that serves to dissipate air for optimal vapor production. Other notable features include the advanced airflow control system, advanced cooling system, the juice-flow-control system, and the option to rig it for temperature control, if that’s your thing. I am certainly impressed by the level of attention they applied to the design of this device, and the performance verifies just how well made it is!
Battery Life and Vapor Production
Battery life and vapor production are nothing to complain about with the VaporFi Edge. Both were designed for heavy usage, and both were done exceptionally well. Battery life goes a full day or so, and charging doesn’t take excessively long. Score! The 1800 mAh is the perfect size and capacity to handle a device of this size and capability. In fact, for the size and volume of the clouds it produces, it’s rather amazing that this kind of performance is capable without some mega 18650 battery.
In Use
In usage, the VaporFi Edge is basically a dream. I mean- come on! Sub ohm clouds from a simple pen-style device. Charge it, fill it, boom. It takes basically no effort and you’ve got this badass little monster pen with a mega sized 7 ml tank that gives one hell of an experience. It is not heavy, feels great when holding it, and does exactly what the company says it will. It handles extensive use perfectly, produces great clouds, and the flavor is totally on point.
Manufacturing Quality
VaporFi’s quality, across all of their many products and especially their liquids, is at the top of the industry. They manufacture under the strictest conditions, and put so much effort into the quality, and this really does come through with their products. They’re really well built, sturdy, and known to go the distance. Judging the whole brand from just the VaporFi Edge, they are on fire! This device is exceptional, from the amount of attention applied to the details, to the level it performs at.
The Edge bridges the gap between beginner-level setups and higher-end, sub-ohm capable mods and temperature control devices, offering something that blends the simplicity beginners love with the performance enthusiasts are looking for. The major downside is the price, which is notably more expensive than for similar devices, but for a high-quality mod with a solid warranty and US-based customer service, many will be happy to pay a little more. One thing goes without saying, though, the performance from the VaporFi Edge is epic.

Halo Tracer Starter Kit

A great mod is only as good as the tank atop it. The Tracer is arguably the best when it comes to the total package thanks to its long lasting battery and top-notch Tracer 3.5 ml Tank that comes included with this kit. Perfect mod for getting into sub-ohm vaping. If you are already using a sub-ohm device, you might not find anything really different here except for the excellent price tag for a startehalo tracer reviewr kit (plus a 30ml bottle of ejuice included), and an easier device of this type to use overall.
Halo has, and still remains atop the ejuice realm thanks to years of their dedication to detail, and keeping the customer at the forefront when producing some of the highest quality vape juice today. Their hardware lineup, unfortunately, in recent past hasn’t followed the same path. Until this previous month, they had two devices, a cig-a-like starter kit, and a vape pen starter kit.
Halo’s last device released was their renowned “Triton” vape pen, in..wait for it…2013! Yikes! Most vendors would have been long gone by now trying to ride the coattails of one device, so it’s a huge testament to the quality of not only their eliquid but the ability to keep such a large fan base on basically one piece of equipment.
The Tracer by Halo is the latest vape mod – and first – to be introduced into their lineup in 3 years, and it was worth the wait!
Instead of just making a bigger vape pen – which they easily could have done, they skipped the easy way out and decided to go BIG, and go straight for the fastest growing category today, the “sub-ohm” vape mod.
The sub-ohm styling of vaping is a significant step up from the older pen/tank version and gives users a much more powerful vaping experience with not only larger vapor output – but helps with getting the maximum amount of flavor from your ejuice. In most cases, sub ohm devices offer a much larger tank and a bigger battery.
If you are already using a sub-ohm device, you might not find anything really different here except for the excellent price tag for a starter kit (plus a 30ml bottle of ejuice included), and an easier device of this type to use overall.
If you are new to bigger mods and are still using a rechargeable or an e-go style vape pen, this is the perfect device to get you to the next level of vaping.
The Tracer comes in a very simple two piece design (tank/battery) with no extra buttons (besides the firing button) and/or dials to adjust. The tank provided in this kit is equal to this simplicity thanks to its easy to twist off bottom for refilling and allowing you to adjust the airflow without unscrewing the tank altogether. Adjusting the airflow is crucial in finding your sweet spot of a throat hit, or the straight mouth to lung hit that sub-ohm tanks call for.
Since this is a basic vaporizer, thanks to the lack of dials and settings that have to be adjusted with certain models, we highly recommend this starter kit. However, that’s where the “basic” description ends, the flavor that results from this mod is anything but basic. We love to come across these simpler designs that have the surprising ability to blast out some awesome clouds, and the Tracer certainly falls into this category. Charge the battery – fill the tank – five clicks of the button to turn it on – and it’s time to vape!

Final Word
As mentioned earlier, Halo customers/fans have been patiently waiting for them to launch some new devices and prove that they keep up with the demands of the vaping community. We feel they have done this with flying colors.The Tracer was the perfect device/kit for them to add to their lineup.
You can tell they put some thought into what kinds of devices to launch and how it would be easiest on their loyal fanbase to make the transition to a bigger device without being extremely overwhelmed (they also launched a box mod at the same time). Now hardcore vapers will be quick to recognize that the Tracer is very similar to some devices already on the market. Yes we are aware that the battery is pretty much a Joyetech One mega, and the tank mirrors the Horizon Artic but thankfully those are two, very solid pieces of vaping hardware, and we have no real issues with these picks from Halo.

Yes we are aware that the battery is pretty much a Joyetech One mega, and the tank mirrors the Horizon Artic but thankfully those are two, very solid pieces of vaping hardware, and we have no real issues with these picks from Halo. Overall, this is a great starter kit and we feel that this is one vape mod that you will be extremely happy with over the long haul.
