Innokin Coolfire IV 100W TC Starter Kit

If you’re familiar with Innokin’s Coolfire IV+, then chances are that you already know how great that product is and how much its users seem to rave about it on a regular basis. I know people who swear by the Storm Edition, and take any criticism of it as a personal insult, so yes – it’s that good. With that noted, Innokin has made a number of advancements in recent months, including the new Aethon 100W-compatible board offering increased temp control. Well, they decided to use that board in the newest incarnation of the Coolfire IV, and that leads us to the product we’re reviewing today. As good as the Coolfire IV+ was, we all know that there was no guarantee that its successor would share its success. So, did it? In this review of the Innokin Coolfire IV 100W TC Starter Kit, we’ll try to get to the bottom of that important question.
Let’s be clear about one thing: after using this box mod device, there is no doubt about the overall performance benefits offered by the Aethon chipset’s inclusion. This is a major upgrade that is going to really catch many Coolfire fans by surprise, as the 100 watts of temperature-controlled power really offers vaping at a different level than what most of those users are accustomed to seeing with their old devices.

The Battery

The device uses a 3300 mAh battery as opposed to the standard 18650 batteries that you see quite often in these types of box mods, so it offers more than enough power to get you through an average day before you have to recharge it during the night. Obviously, heavy use throughout the day – as you might see if you are continually vaping on a road trip, for example, might see you getting less continuous use out of your new Coolfire, but you will still have better staying power than you’ll get with many other products. Plus, there is nothing that says that you have to run the battery completely down, so feel free to recharge any time when you’re not actively using it.
The OLED screen provides a full range of critical information about your device and its usage. You can check the watts, resistance, battery power, voltage, and temperature, as well as your menu of options. All of those options can be controlled using three conveniently located buttons near that gorgeous screen, so there is no fumbling around when you need to make changes. The OLED will also flash codes on the screen in the event any of the device’s protective features are initiated. You can see what those error messages mean by matching the code to the key provided in your owner’s manual.

Temperature Control

There are three temperature settings from which you can choose: The Nickel 200, the Titanium, or the standard Stainless Steel. One thing that really impressed us was the speed at which the Aethon chip responded to our selections – in this case, less than two-tenths of a second from the time we made our selection and the time the device responded. That’s impressive indeed. As for resistance settings, you get unparalleled accuracy at even the lowest resistance ranges, making it easier than ever to ensure that you avoid those horrible dry hits.
That accuracy is necessary for a device like this, since it is designed to provide the maximum level of TC you’ll find anywhere in the marketplace today. The Aethon board seems to do an excellent job detecting even the most minute changes in coil resistance, and makes precise adjustments to maintain your chosen preferences.

The Design

The body is basically a re-purposed Coolfire IV+, which means that it too has perfectly-placed buttons and dependable quality. With the starter kit, you get the 3 ml tank you need, and the iSub tank. Put together, the device is capable of putting out plenty of vapor, though you’re unlikely to be confused for a hookah-smoking caterpillar any time soon. Still, the design is sure to provide you with rich flavor that quickly bathes your taste buds in the perfect blend of e-juice sensations you need to truly enjoy each draw.
Of course, the best thing about this device is its accessibility. Innokin tends to approach design from an intuitive perspective, and that leads to products that almost tell you exactly how you should use them. This device is no different in that regard, and that means that it is a great starter kit for anyone who is just getting started with the more advanced vaping offered by temperature control technology.

The device also comes in a variety of colors, ranging from basic black or white to blue or red. That can be important for those who want their vaping experience to be both stylish and enjoyable. Though some might still subscribe to the notion that things like unit color don’t really matter in the end, the fact remains: there’s no reason that the best vaping tools cannot also be attractive pieces of technology. It’s nice to have a company that understands that as well.
So, what we have is a beautiful and elegantly-designed mod that does exactly what you would want from your vaping equipment. It’s light enough to be used on the go, and sturdy enough to last for many years into the future – or at least until Innokin makes the next great vaping mod that catches your eye. At under $50, the Innokin Coolfire IV 100W TC Starter Kit is definitely worth a look!

VaporFi VOX® 60 TC MOD

Our VaporFi Vox 60 TC review takes a look at the latest in the line of Vox box mods from VaporFi, boasting a 2600 mAh in-built battery, up to 60 W of power and TC with nickel and titanium coils. Sounds awesome, but does it live up the hype?


VaporFi’s Vox series has gone through quite a few incarnations now. The original Vox 50 performed well, but it’s construction and features left a lot to be desired. Then came the Vox Mini, which rectified some of the issues and was a solid mod in its own right. However, it was lacking temperature control (TC) and only offered 40 W of power. The Vox 60 TC is the latest in the line-up of box mods from VaporFi, and this one aims to do pretty much everything you could want it to. It offers an in-built 2600 mAh battery, 60 W of power and TC vaping using nickel and titanium coils. But does the device live up to the hype? We’ve put it to the test for our VaporFi Vox 60 TC review to find out.

The Vox 60 TC is available on its own for $139.99. You can also pick it up in a kit with a tank of your choice for $169.99. We’ve tested out the kit with the vSix sub ohm tank included, so this review will cover both devices.

What You Get



The Vox 60 TC comes in a standard-style box with VaporFi branding and the characteristic white-and-green color scheme. The box opens up to reveal your device resting in an upper layer of foam. As well as that, you also get a manual and a high-quality USB charger. The vSix tank comes separately in the same style of box. You receive the tank, a 0.45 ohm SS coil, a 0.25 ohm Ni200 coil and a 0.25 ohm standard Kanthal dual coil. This is a great offering, overall. If you pick up the starter kit the only thing you need to get vaping is some e-juice.

The Design



The Vox 60 TC has a very minimalist and low-key appearance. It comes in either black or silver and has a uniform color, curved edges and a fairly small stature. The mod measures 79 mm tall by 39 mm wide by 24 mm deep (roughly 3 and 1/8 inches by 1 and 1/2 inches by 1 inch). This means it fits comfortably in your hand and slips easily into a pocket or bag. One side features some branding, but it’s simply engraved into the body of the mod in the same color, so it doesn’t stand out too much or ruin the overall appearance.

The fire button is square and located on the front side of the mod, and sits flush to the body of the device. The display screen sits right underneath this as on most mods. Less conventionally, the adjustment buttons are located on the top edge of the device. This helps keep the front edge of the mod from getting too busy, but it does make it a bit more uncomfortable to adjust your settings. The USB charging port is on the bottom of the device – so no standing it up as you charge.


The 510 connection sits behind the adjustment buttons. This features a spring-loaded and silver-plated contact point that also has a flat-head screw top so it can be adjusted further if necessary (which, realistically, it won’t be).

The vSix sub ohm tank matches the mod very well thanks to the black body. Although the silver VaporFi branding stands out a lot more than the counterpart on the mod, it still looks fairly sleek on the whole. The tank has two oval-shaped windows so you can see your juice level, which also adds to the generally appealing look.


The tank is built like most other sub ohm tanks, with the coil attaching to the bottom deck and a slot-style adjustable airflow at the bottom. It has a top-filling design, with the knurled top cap screwing off and revealing two fill holes surrounded by small sections of rubber. Below the top cap is another textured, twistable section which is used to control the liquid flow to the coil. As you turn it, you can see the metallic fringes at the bottom of the chimney section move to cover the wicking ports in the coils.

Although it’s a top-filling tank, it screws apart easily from the bottom too so you can change your coil. There’s another knurled section below the airflow ring to make this easier to do. On the whole, the design of the tank is great, and anybody who’s used a sub ohm tank before should feel right at home.

Overall, the design of the Vox 60 TC and the vSix tank are great. They both do everything you need them to, don’t impose much branding on you and have some nice touches to ensure everything looks great.

Features



The main feature of the Vox TC 60, as the name suggests, is the TC functionality with nickel and titanium coils. This allows you to set the temperature anywhere from 200 to 600 °F (or 100 to 300 °C). The device also gives you the option of adjusting the ramp-up wattage. This is a must-have option on TC devices for me, and it’s simply controlled with the adjustment buttons when you’re in TC mode. Adjusting the temperature isn’t as easy to do, though – you have to lock the device and hold down both adjustment buttons to make changes.

And of course the device also has variable wattage mode. This allows you to set the power going to your atomizer anywhere from 7 to 50 W, in 0.5 W increments. The fact that they’ve departed from the norm of 0.1 ohm increments is a big plus-point. There is rarely any need for such precision and it makes it much less time consuming to adjust your setting. You can use the device with any coils ranging from 0.1 to 3.5 ohms in standard wattage mode and from 0.05 to 1 ohm in TC mode.

The Vox 60 TC also has a mech mode – which you activate by going past 60 W in the standard wattage mode. This allows you to go over the power limit if you’re looking for higher-wattage vaping. Increasing the available wattages would have accomplished the same thing (and would have given you consistent performance), but this is a nice addition for anybody who wants more power from their device.

The Vox 60 TC also comes with the expected range of safety features. This includes low voltage and low resistance protection, as well as an in-built amp limit of 24.5 A. This limit offers more than enough to satisfy most vapers while still keeping you within the safe limits of the battery. The device also has plenty of venting to protect you in the unlikely event something goes wrong with the battery. It can also be locked and powered off to prevent accidental firing.

Overall, while the device could have more features (such as a TCR mode so you could adjust the TC performance and support for stainless steel TC coils) it does a great job, and offers everything most vapers will need.

In Use



So how do the Vox 60 TC and the vSix tank stand up in use?

For ease of use, the combination works excellently. The Vox 60 TC has an automatic ohm reader. This means that when you connect a new atomizer, it automatically displays the resistance. If you’re in TC mode but connect a standard coil, it will also move you to wattage mode. If you’re attaching a TC atomizer, it asks which type of coil you’ve connected. After you choose Ni200 or Ti, it takes to you to the correct version of the home screen. For the TC coils, I’ve had a few occasions when it didn’t respond when I connected the atomizer. To solve this issue, you simply disconnect your tank, wait for it to register that it’s disconnected and then screw back on.


As for the tank, the top-filling system works really well. The two fill holes are easily big enough for a dripper spout, and its much more user-friendly than bottom-filling tanks. You have to remember to close off the liquid flow as you fill up, but really it’s not so bad if you forget (though you may get some leaking). When you screw the top cap back on after filling you naturally uncover them anyway.

The performance from both the mod and the tank is excellent. The mod in particular is a beautiful device. Despite being metallic, it feels pleasantly soft in your hand and the curved edges make it very comfortable to use. Wattage mode works just as you’d hope. The power output is consistent and I haven’t had connection issues, fluctuating resistance or any similar issues throughout testing. With the vSix tank, the vapor production is excellent and the flavor is robust and delicious. It really brings your juices to life, and the adjustable airflow gives you plenty of options for draw. As with many sub ohm tanks it’s hard to get a good mouth-to-lung friendly airflow out of it. However, you can do it if you really close off the airflow.


The TC works really well too, managing to limit your coil’s temperature while still providing a consistent stream of vapor. This largely comes down to the adjustable ramp-up voltage. If you were stuck vaping at 60 W it would approach the maximum pretty quickly. Then there’d be a notable drop-off as the device let the coil cool down, producing a jumpy, sporadic vaping experience. Although I only tried it with the nickel coils included with the vSix, it worked excellently, as did the tank itself for TC vaping.

The battery in the mod has a 2600 mAh capacity. This is enough to get you through a day, especially if you’re not vaping at high power. I’m a bit of a chain-vaper, though, so I did struggle to get full day from a charge. That said, it’s definitely a device you could take with you to work without worrying about running out of charge. Also, charging is impressively quick; it takes about one and a half hours from empty to full. It would be better if it allowed vaping as you charge, though, especially for vapers who only have one device.

There are a few downsides to the setup, though. The easy adjustment of ramp-up wattage in TC mode is great, but it could be organized more efficiently. The process for changing temperature is awkward: lock, hold down adjustment buttons, and then dial in your setting. It’d be better to do this for wattage rather than the temperature, because you’re more likely to want to adjust your temperature to suit your juice. In most cases this doesn’t really cause a problem, though, and it’s easy enough to adjust.

The tank is also very prone to leaking when it’s low on juice. This is expected, but it does seem to be a bigger issue with the vSix than with other tanks. Again, in most cases this isn’t a huge deal, but it can get annoying on occasion.

Finally – and this is getting quite nit-picky – the adjustment buttons aren’t too comfortable to use when you’re vaping. Although it would have ruined the flush appearance of the front of the mod, it would have been much more easy to use if they’d have been under the display screen. On the whole, though, the mod is very comfortable to use.

Overall, the Vox 60 TC does a great job in day-to-day use. Despite some minor, niggling issues it’s a fantastic device. The same goes for the vSix, which would have been near-flawless without the leaking issues. However, it still offers fantastic vapor production and great flavor with all of the included coils.

Build Quality



The Vox 60 TC has exceptional build quality. The threading is very high quality, the buttons have a pleasant amount of resistance without being too hard to push down, and the whole device seems very sturdy. There isn’t much that could have gone wrong, but VaporFi has still done an excellent job. The same goes for the vSix – everything works just as you want it to.

Conclusion

The Vox 60 TC and vSix tank make an awesome combination. They both perform excellently, do everything you want them to – unless you’re big on clouds and 60 W isn’t enough power for you – and have a sleek, impressive appearance. The mod in particular is a beautiful device; VaporFi has really shown they work to improve their offerings since the first Vox, and this is really the pinnacle of what they have to offer. As always with VaporFi, the big sticking point is the price. At $139.99 for the mod alone and $169.99 when you add a tank into the mix, it’s really quite an investment, and it puts them well into the high-end of vaping devices. The benefit of choosing VaporFi is the manufacturing quality and excellent, US-based customer service – even for troubleshooting or other issues, which is great for newer vapers – but you can’t escape the fact that you can find many great devices for less money. If you’re willing to pay a little more, the device is absolutely excellent, and comes highly recommended, but they’re not the best choice if you’re looking to maximize your savings.

Smok R200 200W TC VW Box MOD

The SMOK R200 is a 200W temperature control mod from Chinese manufacturer SMOK Tech. There are plenty of these devices to choose from nowadays, but what really sets the R200 apart from other high-power mods are its compact size, unusually light weight and very competitive price point.
Although the R200 comes in the exact same packaging we’ve come to expect from SMOK, the contents of this particular kit are a bit different. Inside the large cardboard box you can find the mod in one of four available colors (black, silver, white and red), a micro-USB upgrading cable, a safety warning card, a beefy user manual and a backup kit for the TFV4 Mini sub-ohm tank. It was the inclusion of this kit that I personally found a bit odd.

If you already own a TFV4 Mini tank, the backup kit allows you to swap the original TFV4 coil heads with two shorty size ones (an 0.3Ω dual Clapton core and an 1.8Ω single Clapton core) as well as the tall glass tube with a shorter one. SMOK claims that doing so will decrease e-liquid consumption – something the TFV4 tank family is notorious for – without sacrificing juice capacity. Even though the new glass tube is shorter than the original, because the coil heads are considerably smaller, the e-liquid capacity of the tank is actually increased by 0.5 ml.
Reduced e-liquid consumption and increased capacity for my TFV4 Mini? Please, sign me up! But the thing is the backup kit only benefits vapers who actually own the tank. For everybody else it’s utterly useless. Now, I know that SMOK probably included it as an incentive to go out and buy their tank, but I still find it an odd addition to a mod starter kit. Why not offer the TFV4 Mini backup kit with the actual TFV4 Mini, thus giving users even more customization options? Anyway, it comes with R200, in case you’re interested.

Design-wise, the R200 is almost identical to the SMOK R80, which in turn is reminiscent of the old SMOK M80 temperature control mod. The 200 W version is only half a millimiter taller and one millimiter thicker than the 80 W one, making the difference almost invisible to the naked eye. The only other visible differences between the two devices are the lack of a reset button on the SMOK R200 and the addition of a battery door on the bottom, both of which can be explained by the fact that the R200 works with removable 18650 batteries, whereas the R80 has a non-removable 4000 mAh battery.
Since the two devices are so similar in shape and size, I’m not going to go into great detail about the design. For more info on this subject you can read my review of the SMOK R80. I am going to say that I for one love the elegant high-end look and feel of the R200. It is unusually small and light for the power it can put out making it the stealthiest high-power mod I’ve ever used.

Apart from the obvious power output discrepancy between the R80 and R200, the main other difference is the addition of removable batteries to the newer 200 W device. Apparently, a lot of people complained about the sealed battery of the R80, so for their latest offering SMOK went the way of removable 18650 batteries instead. That will undoubtedly count as an improvement for advanced vapers, while at the same time making the SMOK R200 less appealing for intermediate users and beginners. One of the main selling points of the R80 was the built-in battery that could be charged via the included micro-USB cable, but with the R200 you need to buy high-drain batteries separately as well as a smart charger for external charging, as the USB port on the bottom of the device can now only be used for firmware upgrades.


While we’re on the subjects of batteries, I would like to mention that I have mixed feelings about the battery door style SMOK implemented on the R200. As a lot of people have noticed, it has its advantages over the sliding magnetic cover used on the X Cube 2 and X Cube Mini – mainly that it locks firmly into place and doesn’t wobble at all – but I personally found it to be very frustrating.
First of all, its location on the bottom of the device is all wrong in my opinion. In the three weeks prior to writing this review, I sometimes paired it with one of my RDAs and whenever I needed to change the batteries, I had to unscrew the atomizer because I needed to tilt or turn the device on its head to keep the batteries from falling out, which in turn would have caused the e-liquid to leak. The experience made me appreciate side doors a lot more.

Another thing I didn’t like about this new style of battery door was the struggle to lock it into place after inserting the two 18650 batteries. Both the mod and the door have these grooves you have to align perfectly when sliding it into place, but that’s easier said than done. You have to apply quite a bit of pressure against the batteries while keeping an eye on the alignment and that proved quite frustrating, especially when I was in a hurry to get to work. I just feel that the side covers on the X Cube series were more practical, but maybe it’s just me.
The buttons, display and the menu of the SMOK R200 are identical to those of the R80, so I’m not going to go through them again. Check out my review of the R80 for more details, but here they are in a nutshell:

The buttons are nice and clicky and, most importantly, they don’t rattle at all. I was sent four units and none of them rattle one bit, which is a significant improvement from the R80. I did notice that these units, unlike others I received from SMOK in the past, were not marked as samples, so maybe that has something to do with the evident improvements in build quiality.
The display is decent, but I do wish they made it a bit larger and brighter to make all the data more easily visible, and the menu is easy to navigate and figure out, especially if you’re used SMOK products in the past. The one feature I didn’t really find useful was the time and date setting, which reset every time you take out the batteries. If I were to guess, I’d say SMOK used the same board as on the R80 and didn’t bother to take out this feature, despite its utter uselessness. They could have added a tiny separate battery to keep these settings while you swap batteries, but I guess they didn’t think the trouble of doing so was worth it. Anyway, it’s a secondary function that has nothing to do with vaping, so i’m not even going to count it as a con. I just thought I’d mention it.

In terms of performance, the SMOK R200 is a beast. I don’t know if it actually does 200 W as I don’t have the equipment to test it, not do I ever vape anywhere close to those numbers for fear of my throat and lungs being obliterated. Normally I vape at around 60 – 70 W, but I took the R200 up to 100 W just out of curiosity. It was a much hotter vape than I was used to, but the device performed great. Like all new-generation SMOK vaporizers, it has five Special Draw Effects – ‘Min.’, ‘Soft’, ‘Norm.’, ‘Hard’ or ‘Max’ – to choose from, allowing you to customize your vaping experience. It’s a feature I haven’t seen on any other mods I’ve tested recently – except Koopor, a sister brand of SMOK – and I miss it every time I switch mods.
I can’t imagine anyone actually being able to handle a 200 W vape and I don’t even know if current high-drain batteries can actually be used safely at that extreme setting, but for my needs, the R200 packs more than enough power.

In wattage mode, the SMOK R200 fires from 1 W all the way to 200 W/0.8V – 9V and supports resistances from 0.1Ω to 3.0Ω. Scrolling though the wattage values is done with the usual ‘+’ and ‘-‘ buttons in 0.1W increments. You might think it will take forever to go from 1W to 200W, but luckily, it picks up speed the longer you keep one of the buttons pressed.
For most advanced vapers, temperature control is one of the most important features a mod can have these days, but I’ve never really been a fan of it, and with all the controversy regarding soft materials like Ni200 leeching at high temperatures, I’ve stopped using it completely. It’s all speculation at this point, but until we get some scientific confirmation, I feel it’s just not worth the risk.

For those of you who do enjoy vaping in temperature control mode, I will mention that the SMOK R200 supports nickel, titanium and stainless steel builds, and, just like the R80, successfully passes the cotton burn test, which makes sense since both devices use the same circuit board and algorithms.
In temp control mode, the R200 has a temperature range of 200°F-600°F/100°C-315°C and supports resistances between 0.06Ω and 2.0Ω.
Having tried every device SMOK has launched in the last year beginning with the X Cube 2, I can say without a doubt that the R200 is their best offering yet. It has an appealing minimalist design and high-quality feel, and despite boasting the highest power output of all SMOK mods it is incredibly compact and light. It’s not perfect, but the few flaws I’ve listed above don’t really affect the stellar performance of the mod, and can easily be addressed in a future version.
Last but not least, the price of the R200 is just insane. For just $49.95 you get a 200 W device that does temperature control, supports Ni200, titanium and stainless steel, and is packed full of useful features. Did I mention how nice it looks and feels in your hand? You just can’t get a better deal than this.

Pioneer4You IPV5 200W TC Box MOD

The long awaited IPV5 is finally here and in my opinion it’s so far turning out to be one of my newest favorite over quite a few other vape devices that I tend to use on a regular basis. Over the past 6 months we have seen a few variations of Pioneer4you’s next dual 18650 battery device including one that looked like it was styled after a 1950’s kitchen table. But what we now have without a shred of a doubt is the sleek and stylish official IPV5.


This stylish unit has quite a few of the features that made Pioneer4you one of my most trusted vaporizer providers. Features like the memory function, the OLED layout and information provided on it, build quality, button placement, upgradeability, and ample power ranges in both temperature control and power mode.
The design on the box for the IPV5 is pretty eye catching sporting the outline picture of the device and IPV5 in big bright letters underneath and who can miss the YiHi SX Pure Technology up top but more importantly it’s what is inside the box that counts. Inside is a nice and dark Tardis Blue IPV5 just beaming back at me with such a nice paint job I was almost afraid to pick it up and get fingerprints all over it. Underneath the IPV5 device itself is the USB upgrade cable and an information booklet that explains how to navigate the menu system; I’ll leave that part of the fun for you when you get one.
The IPV5 does have a micro USB port but this one is not for charging. The IPV5 is fully upgradable and if the model you purchased isn’t already upgraded, you can do so by visiting www.pioneer4you.com and just install the upgrade software on your computer. The booklet/manual even says directly in it “please take batteries out to charge them” so I must be on to something by sticking with my purpose built charger to charge my 18650 batteries rather than do so by using the USB charge method. My 18650 batteries have outlasted other people’s 18650 batteries who did USB charging routinely and that alone should suggest the best method of charging.
For the longest time one of my favorite vape devices has been the IPV3Li, I fell in love with the thing since the day it arrived in the vape mail. I took it to Quebec with me, I take it camping with me, and when I go out for any length of time away from home it has always been my vape of choice. I even went as far as covering it with stickers of my favorite eLiquid companies when I took it to Canada’s Vape Expo in Montreal to show my support on the vape device everyone sees me carrying. So with the IPV3Li being such a favored vape device for me, you can understand why I badly anticipated the arrival and the release of the newest vape device in the IPV series. I hoped that it would compare to the greatness the IPV3Li had so far shown me. Then when Ashley started to share pictures of the new IPV5 and that they had it in stock I hit the roof with excitement. I started looking into it and right away knew this was going to be a vaporizer I would enjoy, but i was unsure if I would enjoy it as much as the IPV3Li . A short time after that, my IPV5 arrived and my investigation did begin, my investigation into whether I would have a new favorite vape device.

The new features the IPV5 boasts are a SX Pure Temperature Control that supports the new IPV Pure X1 atomizer, SX Pure wattage mode for with the IPV Pure X1 atomizer, Stainless has been added for coil options in Temperature Control mode, and a new kind of Temperature Control that is suitable for all kinds of wire set by the TCR (Temperature Coefficient Resistance). These features/modes are new to the IPV line up and should be very interesting to see what all can be done with them.
The actual physical appearance of the IPV5 may have changed quite a bit since the IPV3Li but it tends to share more, a lot more of the same style quirks of the IPVD3 but with a few tweeks of it’s own to make it it’s own style. Along the front face where we find the super bright OLED screen we find the same styling lines around the buttons and screen as we seen on the IPVD3 except on the IPV5 it’s spaced out a bit more and larger as this is a larger vape device. We also find the USB directly below the OLED screen which is a lot more convenient than on the bottom, you can actually sit the IPV5 down properly when it is plugged in.
The sides of the IPV5 are not just large flat sides like most mid to large sized vape devices, there are recessed sections that I’m not sure if they were intended for grip or just to add to a much cooler look. Both sides are virtually identical just mirrored and the side that isn’t the battery door side has Pioneer4you logo stamped up near the top to remind you that it is a top quality vaporizer, nothing less than the best.

The battery door is the complete side of the IPV5 that does not have the Pioneer for you logo and the way the door snaps or pops into place has been well designed, it fits very snug with no slippage from the three neodymium magnets that keep it in place. Simply slide the door down a quarter of an inch and lift and it is that easy to remove to gain access to the battery compartment. The sides of the door hug right close to the battery tray/compartment and everything lines up so smooth, this saves some room and looks superior to previous designs.
As for the IPV5‘s battery compartment it is a big change from the IPV3Li and a bit closer to that of the IPV4s, I have to say it’s a change that is an improvement. No more are there rough abrupt edges that like to knick the skins on you 18650 batteries if you don’t take your time putting them into place, everything has nice smooth or somewhat rounded edges. The lower end where the bottoms of the 18650 batteries rest are little ridges that stick up and I assume these are to help guide the bottom of the batteries into place. Clearly marked polarity symbols can also be seen to assure no mistake and installing your batteries reverse polarity, mistakes happen but if they do no worries as reverse polarity protection is just one of the many safety features included on the IPV5.

The overall size of the IPV5 is slightly larger than it looks in pictures but not any larger than previous dual 18650 battery vape devices we’ve seen from Pioneer4you. The IPV5‘s size is smaller than the IPV3Li and definitely more form fit with it’s curved sides a flush flat top, seamlessly housing the spring loaded 510 connection.

Armed with the most up to date GUI upgradeable YiHi SX330-200 chipset, the IPV5 has all the power and options and vape enthusiast could want, 200 watts of pure power and every temperature control mode available on the market today. I myself don’t venture too far into the world of temperature control but now with all of the options available believe me I plan on taking the giant leap and making use of all the new modes available.

With all this power we should always respect the safety aspects and be grateful for the safety features included on our regulated vape devices especially when venturing into new areas and learning new things. Low voltage protection, low resistance protection, High input voltage warning, output short circuit protection (atomizer short), Reverse battery protection and temperature overheat protection are the main safety features included with the IPV5 and should be the very least when it comes to safety and regulated vape devices.

The new modes on the IPV5 are the manual TCR and SX Pure modes. For what I understand it at this point and it may take me some more time to fully comprehend just what all can be done with this mode I do not want to mislead anyone or really try to go into detail about but I will tell you what I make of it so far. Manual TCR means actually being able to set the Temperature Coefficient Resistance yourself so you may be able to run coils of a different material other that Nickel, Titanium or Stainless Steel in Temperature control mode. So for what I gather if you set the resistance for A1 Kanthal should you know the value to input you will be able to now run Kanthal properly in Temperature Control mode and that alone is a pretty sweet deal.


SX Pure Technology is something brand new to me, I have honestly never heard of it before the arrival of my IPV5 so I took some time to look into it and I’ll do my best to layout what SX Pure technology is all about. YiHi SX Pure is looking to change atomizer technology or at least steer it in a different direction. The SX Pure technology utilizes a new way to vaporize your eJuice, it uses a special alloy material instead of traditional wire intended for vaping. The heating section is fixed on the heating core and using the wonderful YiHi chipset control system to match the dedicated heating core temperature control can be achieved, while still achieving the common voltage adjustment application. SX Pure’s heating core is based on the combination of temperature control and voltage adjustment.

The life of this new SX Pure heating core is supposed to be extensively longer than tradition wire coils and using the SX Pure mode on the IPV5 has a renewable reuse feature that self cleans the residue buildup off of the heating core, that’s pretty handy but I do kind of already do this to my coils whenever I rewick my cotton. SX Pure product application is based on the combination of the IPV5‘s new electronic control technology and metal heating wire design technology and by the sounds of things should really help increase the accuracy between vape device and coil technology which should overall provide an even better vape, time shall tell.

So now after a week or so of continual use of the IPV5 in various modes I started to really take a liking to it. I mean, what’s not to like about this mod? In power mode I found myself keeping the wattage in and around 100 watts and of course with the memory features you can set your favorite wattage settings, myself I prefer to have one of the memory settings at half (in this case 50 watts) of my highest so that I can dry my cotton out really well when switching between flavors. Do keep in mind the average resistance of most of the coils I build end up around 0.10 ohm, at 100 watts 0.10 ohm is usually around 3.0 volts but still kicks out a ton of flavor and vapor and that is exactly what I love from a vaporizer.


In Temperature mode I found the IPV5 to behave identically to the IPV3Li, the temperature control seems to be working on overtime to keep my coils at the precise temperature I set it to PLUS it would actually throw the “dry coil no liquid” warning when my cotton would approach critical dryness. I have not had too many vape devices actually throw that warning at the appropriate time but was amused to see it work proper for once. I at this point have only been able to use the Temperature control mode with Nickel wire as Stainless Steel and Titanium are a little harder to come by at a decent price in my area unless I buy an abundance online and sometimes that Is what you have to do if you really want to try something less common.

As Far as Manual TCR mode is concerned for me right now it is something that takes a bit of figuring to actually know what you must do to use it properly. I pulled up a page called “Steam Engine” which is chock full of useful vaporizing apps to help you make sure yourself of a knowledged and quality vape experience. Through the tools on this site I was able to determine the TCR for my coils only to discover my TCR was way to low to be set on the IPV5‘s menu. All I can do for now is continue to try different coils and different coil materials until I find a set up within the IPV5‘s TCR range and then I can start to discover the benefits it really has to offer as I feel this could be a very useful function.



So in the end I think it’s fair to say that I really have been enjoying the IPV5 and a lot of it’s new functions have got me more than curious to see what all will come of their addition to vaporizers in the near future and perhaps more interesting to see what all the ingenuitive vapers out there will accomplish using these new modes. For me I love the fact that it operates the same if not better than my favorite vaporizer and feels way more comfortable with the new rounded edge design and flashy paint job. I have not had a vaporizer I did not enjoy from Pioneed4You and again never had any serious issues from any of their products so this is another big thing the IPV5 has going for it, it’s produced by one of the best vaporizer manufacturers you can count on.
